Dear Diary,

As you would no doubt be aware, it has been an extremely tough time for the cricketing world and sport fans in general with the tragic death of Phillip Hughes.  In the midst of Phil’s passing however, it was heart-warming to see people from all over the world come together and show their respects to a talented player who was taken from us far too soon.  All junior and senior Bullants showed their respects by observing a minute’s silence at the start of play last weekend and by wearing black armbands.  There were also some scoreboard tributes and many players participated in the #putoutyourbats tribute (see photos below).

RIP Phil Hughes #63* #408

On the social front, we had another full house at our annual trivia night on November 29th – well done to the winning table led by Tim Lane, and thanks to all who attended.  Our next event is our Xmas Party which will be held on Saturday 20th December from 6.30pm.  The event will include match reports and junior games medallion presentations.  We will be having a spit roast & salads dinner and we have made this very affordable for all families, so we are hoping for a strong turn out.  Make sure you send your RSVP to your respective captain / coach, or via email to us ASAP.

Have a very merry Christmas and see you in the New Year!

Regards,

Dom

The BTCC 1st X1 ‘put out their bats’ before the match against East Burwood. Thanks to Tony Mason for this sensational photo.

It’s been a pleasing couple of weeks for the BTCC.

Our 1st XI has managed to win the last three matches on the trot, including an outright win against St Davids. The 1s now find themselves sitting in fourth place having played five of the top six teams and with plenty of room for improvement.  Joey Paolucci has been the pick of the players over the past fortnight, picking up eight wickets in the outright win.

Our 2nd XI continue to battle along and improve on a regular basis. The club was extremely pleased to see Kristian Haikal make his first century for the club against Manningham.  Mark Coulston also recently scored a half century against East Burwood.  Both players are no strangers to 1s cricket and will certainly put some healthy pressure on players in the higher grade.

The 3s are currently sitting in third spot, enjoying a great season so far.
Captain of the 3rd XI, Tim Lane, brought up his first century against Forest Hill and Josh Fulton continues to star with the bat making another
70 runs in the same match.  The 3s continue to improve and are looking to go a little better in March than previous years.

Our 4s have had a great influx of parents playing with our juniors and I would like to welcome Matt Leggio and Paul Pavlidis to the senior playing group.  Their training attendance has not gone unnoticed and I think we will see these names slowly appearing through the grades over the coming weeks.

Good luck to all senior sides in the last match before the break up and I look forward to hearing the junior / senior match reports at the Christmas function.

Our U12 Friday night team observed a 63 seconds silence with EBHCC at Timber Ridge following the tragic passing of Phillip Hughes.

Congratulations to junior Bullants who have been selected to play representative cricket.  Jake Sticca has been selected to play for Kew in the VSDCA J.G. Craig U15 tournament (formerly known as Hatch).  Christian Toppi, Nick Gioskos and Lachie Blanchard have been selected in U14 BHRDCA representative sides, while Steph Paolucci has been selected to play in an U15 BHRDCA girls side.  Full fixture details will be posted to the BTCC website.

The runs have been flowing in our junior teams.  Jake Sticca (53*), Julian Toppi (53*) and Christian Toppi (40*) led the U16s to victory against Bulleen.  Julian also took 4-3!

In the U14 ECA side, Lachie Blanchard (59*) and Nick Gioskos (50*) were amongst the runs in the recent win against Balwyn, while in the U14 BHRDCA side, Mitch Cassidy (51) and James Gattuso (33*) featured in the win against Yarraleen.

Meanwhile, the U12 Saturday side compiled an impressive 329 (Jake Donovan 40*, Nathan Ashmore 36*, Nick Paolucci 27*) in the win vs. Kerrimuir United.  Hamish McClean took 3-2 with the ball.

As always, it’s great to see junior Bullants playing senior cricket.  Congratulations to Nick Paolucci, who at 11 years old, we believe may have become BTCC’s youngest senior wicket taker, playing for the 3rd XI in their Round 3 win.
