Dear Diary,

After a relatively slow start on the field, it appears we have now kicked into gear with the 1s and 4s notching up their first wins over the weekend. The 3s are going along smoothly with a couple of excellent performances with the bat, particularly from Leigh Billington our newest recruit scoring a ton and Josh “Vimps” Fulton scoring 83, his highest ever score for BTCC.  Our 2s are yet to get off the mark, however there have been some significant individual improvement from a few of the players, Chris Paolucci and Lachie Millen to name a couple.
The juniors are well into the swing of things with yet another strong recruitment drive over the off-season resulting in a number of new players to the club, particularly in the under 12s where we now have three teams playing.  We’ve also had our biggest ever Milo ‘in2cricket’ registration sign-on, with over 35 kids participating in the program which will be run by Tim Arnold and myself again this season.  I’d just like to take this opportunity to thank Tim (known as Rosie to everyone around the Bullants) for his ongoing efforts with the Club.  Not only is he a consistent and reliable opening bowler in the 1st XI (taking 5/18 off 15 overs only last week), but equally as important, Tim is always prepared to help out in all other aspects of the Club, whether it be coaching the Milo kids or offering his time when we have our sausage sizzle fundraisers.  Every Club would love to have a few Rosies around the place!
Off the field, we are busily preparing for Trivia Night on Saturday 29th November, which has traditionally been our most popular social function in recent years. Matt Hale will again run the night and the details of the event can be found in the flyer attached below.  It would be great to see at least a couple of junior parents’ tables, as we had last year, and also a table with our T20B team.  Start getting your teams of 8-10 together now as there are only 10 tables available.
Finally, our social memberships our now available for purchase (details also included below).  The Club relies on both sponsors and memberships from a financial perspective, so I am hoping you can have a look at the benefits on offer and buy a Gold, Blue or Ladies membership next time you’re down at the Club.
See you at trivia night!

Regards,

Dom

Although it has been a challenging start to the season, all four senior sides are showing signs of improvement.  It was pleasing to have three wins last Saturday, including the first of the season for the 1st X1.  Training attendance is on the up and the quality of training has certainly been high.

The club has welcomed a new player (Leigh Billington) who started in the 3s
with a 0, but quickly turned this around with a swashbuckling 101* retired. Congratulations Leigh and we look forward to you moving through the teams and putting some healthy pressure on our 1s and 2s.

There has been some other notable mentions over the past fortnight, Chris
Paolucci batting for 70+ overs in the 2s, scoring 73 against Heatherdale,
Jake Sticca 54* retired in the 4s in Round 2, and Tim Arnold ‘turning back the clock’ taking 5-18 (first five wickets of the match) on his birthday against Vermont.

The Junior season is up and running, with the Bullants fielding 7 teams across BHRDCA and ECA on Friday nights and Saturday mornings.

The boys have had a productive start to the season as well, with plenty of runs and wickets.  The U16’s kicked off with a win against Clifton Hill.  Julian Toppi and Jake Sticca led the way with 50 and 44 respectively, while Jacob Agrotis and Jake took 3 wickets each.

The Toppi brothers have been firing with Julian backing up his Round 1 effort with 36* in Round 2, while younger brother Christian scored 61* in the U14 Saturday team.  Nick Gioskos also scored 34, and Patrick Dempsey took 3-12 in the U14s Round 2 win against Heathmont.

Meanwhile in the U14 Friday night outfit, Lachie Blanchard scored 60 in the Round 2 loss against Burwood Pervan.

In the U12s it’s been the ball doing the damage, with Nathan Ashmore taking 3-9 and Hamish McClean 2-11 (following his 4-6 in Round 1) in the win against Mitcham.

Keep up the good work guys!
