Girls T20 Anna Lanning Shield (ALS) ECA

Round 1 (grading round)

Healy (Pink) ALS Stars

Steely Keeley really nearly pulled it off for Healy

By Alice and Stephen Mayne

Wednesday the 27th of October was the first cricket game of the season for the Bulleen Templestowe Healy/Pink combination in the Anna Lanning shield. We played a bigger, stronger and older Mont Albert combination at Hislop Park in Balwyn, which included the Kew Rovers U/15 footballer who was voted best player in the comp last season. Our team ranged in age between Captain Stephanie Paolucci, 14, and Isabell Parnell at 10. Steph won the toss so we batted on a warm afternoon to ensure we were bowling in the cooler conditions after 6pm. They were a player short so Alice volunteered to field and bat for them, which meant our 9 remaining players all got a greater go in this 8-a-side competition. We scored an impressive 4/51 off 16 overs with everyone contributing. They replied with 2/84. Everyone got two overs except Keeley and Isabell who bowled an over each and then shared the wicket-keeping duties. They both did a great job for their first time ever doing it. Kristy was an excellent fast bowler. We were all very impressed as she clean bowled Alice, who was batting for the opposition. We’d like to congratulate the girls on an excellent first game. Everyone batted and fielded really well. Can’t wait until next week! Thanks to Isabell’s dad James Parnell for being a trooper in solo scoring both innings – and it was his birthday too!

And thanks to the mums for catering and to David Owen for assisting with the umpiring. And, of course, a big thanks to Mark Cassidy for bringing junior girls cricket to the Bullants.

Perry (Yellow) ALS Spirit

WOW, how great it is to have the season off and running and to see all of our girls out there looking very smart in their club gear. We played against a combined Trinity Wilson/Bulleen CC team and a special thanks to Mia Paris and Emersyn Dwyer for volunteering to play with TWBCC as they were 2 players short on the night. Captain Maddy, led from the front with her batting and bowling and hit the stumps twice on run out attempts. The batting was fantastic with an overall score of 4/115 off our 16 overs with Sienna hitting the first straight drive for 4, which saw a doubling of her score to 8 with one shot!! To only lose 4 wickets was amazing and all of the girls contributed to our excellent score.

In the field, Ella Cassidy took the first wicket in the 3rd over with a wonderful catch taken by Lilly Mihos at Cover Point!! I understand this to be the 1st ever wicket in a solely Girls T20 team for BTCC. Sienna clean bowled one girl as well, so contributions were across the board. TWBCC scored 3/120, so a narrow loss but a game thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Thanks to Chris Nelson for umpiring and Melissa Dwyer and Hailey Aldois for scoring. Special thanks to David Owen for organizing icy poles for the girls – they lasted about 10 seconds!!

Anklebyters Blue

Game three of the season was played against Blackburn Stephens at home. Led by our skipper Daniel M, the Bullants were sent into bat. Our boys took full advantage of the small boundary and a bouncy pink ball. Patrick and Christian opened the batting and commenced the run frenzy. Christian top scored with 29, with Anton and Marco scoring 21 and 20 respectively. The blues combined to make an impressive 113. A difficult target to chase. Although the Blackburn boys had other ideas. They also came out and flashed the willow all around the park.

Nevertheless, the Blues were very good with the ball with Marco chiming in with 3 wickets.  A great team effort as the boys displayed good sportsmanship and team morale.

Special mention to Rocco’s mum for the hot chips at the end. In a nail biter the Blues came out victorious with 113 runs to Blackburn 108.

Anklebyters White

Ankylbytrs White v Glenn Waverley Hawks.

Bullen Temp 8 for 90 beat Glenn Waverley Hawks 6 for 82

Bowling : Mac Dwyer 2 for 3 off 1

Lucas Leggio 2 for 3 off 1

Batting :  Sonny McKenzie 21

Lachlan Gilligan 13

Fielding :  Catches 1 to Lachlan Gilligan and 1 to Lenny Allsop.

The boy’s fielding was outstanding throughout the match and they are coming together nicely as a team. The encouragement they are showing each other is very pleasing as a coach.
