Dear Diary,Welcome to Season 2015-16. The Club has had a massive off-season and a busy start on the field as well. So far, we have already achieved the following:
On Saturday 7th November 2015 we have our first Junior Match Reports Night for the Season. We will have a representative from one of our major sponsors attending, we will be presenting all junior coaches with their social polos, and we are also expecting attendance on the night from a special guest player (stay tuned – details to be announced shortly). There are only three junior match reports scheduled for the Season, so please make every effort to get down to the Club on the 7th. A special note to congratulate Jake Sticca who had his debut for the 1stXI last match at the ripe old age of 15. Jake did not look out of place at all in the ones, and batted magnificently (for nearly 40 overs!) in the match against Koonung Heights. Unfortunately, the boys couldn’t get the win, however certainly a day for the Sticca clan to remember. Go Bullants! Dom
The Committee have managed to do this whilst contributing and being active in a strict on-field preseason. Seven out of the ten committee members have played a 1st XI game in season 2015-16, a significant achievement which should be applauded. Our 4th XI have only played one match after two forfeits, but have kicked off their season 3-0. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of dads from the fours at preseason and I am sure this early work will pay off after Christmas. Also looking forward to contributions from many of our new junior members. Unfortunately the 3rd XI have had a difficult start to the year, but and came up against a 1st XI side in Round 3 (Eley Park CC). The thirds have a great bowling line up and I am backing them to turn their season around in the coming weeks. After a difficult season last year, the 2nd XI responded with a close Round 1 loss before they claimed the six points last Saturday. There have been some really solid performances spread across the twos, and I am looking forward to many of these players putting pressure on the 1st XI players. The 1st XI kicked off their season campaign with a convincing win over East Box Hill in the first one day match of the season, however fell short of the 246 run target set by Koonung Heights in Round 2. The ones have welcomed two first time players this season (Andrew Smith and Jake Sticca) after a well deserved preseason and consistent performances in the 2nd XI over previous years. Jake comes into the 1st XI at the early age of 15, but has certainly fitted in well and seems determined to make runs. Due to a number of weddings and committed holidays this year, there will be many opportunities in the higher grades at BTCC, and I would urge all those aiming to play higher to continue to get to training and stack up runs and wickets in their current teams. Good luck to all over the coming weeks Cheers, Maso
2015/2016 season is off and running for all junior grades and this season we have seen a significant increase in numbers, both in terms of teams (2x Anklebyters, 4x U12, 1x U14 and 2x U16) and approx. 120 juniors across all grades rolling out for BTCC each weekend. As a club, we have also made significant inroads into junior girls cricket, with 21 girls registered and ready to commence play in the ECA T20 competition, commencing on 28 October. The Anna Lanning Shield (ALS) will be played throughout the last week of October, all of November and first week of December, returning at the end of January for a further 6 rounds, culminating in finals on Sunday 28 February. BTCC has entered two girls teams, named HEALY and PERRY, after two fantastic Australian players, and teams will line up in the Tier 1 ALS Stars and the Tier 2 ALS Spirit competitions each Wednesday night from 5 – 7pm accordingly. We also expect at least six of the current crop of girls to try out in our U12 and U14 teams and most of these girls are going on to play representative cricket for ECA and BHRDCA in January. Stephanie Paolucci has been appointed Captain of the senior Girls T20 ALS Stars Team and Madeleine Leggio Captain of the junior Girls T20 ALS Spirit Team. Well done to both girls. The Junior’s preseason started in August, which along with a school holiday program, saw excellent numbers at each training session, ranging on average from 50 to 75 kids. All five nets, as well as the centre wicket are taken up and it is really heartening to see so many kids running around having fun in the sun!! With the increase in numbers, we have also seen a significant increase in the volunteer coaching staff and on behalf of Graham, we welcome to the team:
The overall support from parents has been extremely well received. We would also like to pass on a significant thanks to Joseph Paolucci, who has been a regular at U16 and U14 training, passing his expert eye over our current crop of players and providing one on one coaching assistance, which has been fantastic. We have a number of junior players already participating in seniors cricket and a specially mention to Jake Sticca, who played his maiden 1st XI game in Round 2, cap number 218. Congratulations to the following junior players selected to trial for representative sides:
